Abdominoplasty / Tummy tuck

A tummy tuck or dermolipectomy is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen. It removes the distended skin and strengthens the abdominal muscles: it is a real tummy lift that will “rejuvenate” the lower abdomen.

In France, this intervention can be covered by Social Security, after prior agreement, when the abdomen has been weakened (diastasis) by pregnancies or there has been significant weight loss, especially when there is excess skin (apron) that falls on the pubic area.

Otherwise, the intervention is purely cosmetic, in this case nothing is covered by health insurance.

An incision is made in the lower part of the abdomen, in a fold usually covered by underwear. The abdomen skin is then peeled upwards to the ribs. The belly button remains in its usual place.

The abdominal muscles can then be tightened, this is called the diastasis cure. The abdomen skin is stretched downwards and excess skin and fat are removed.

This procedure is not very painful, and to relieve any tensions afterwards,  a simple analgesic can be taken (ex. Paracetamol).

It is necessary to envisage a healing time of 2 to 3 weeks in order to allow the tissues to better attach themselves. A sheath should be worn for a month. Wound cleaning should be performed every day after showering and until the threads are removed on the 15th day.
